Trees for Days
Making positive environmental impact a core part of traveller interactions
G Adventures is a global leader in adventure travel based out of Toronto, with a strong focus on responsible travel and community tourism. They wanted to demonstrate leadership in responsible travel, and to meet the growing demand from consumers for travel that has a net positive impact.
The issue of sustainable travel is such a poignant topic to the heart of G Adventures’ founder, Bruce Poon Tip, that they produced a documentary about how tourism can create shared value for visitors and local communities alike.
G Adventures also wanted to make positive environmental impact a core part of their customer proposition, through a simple, tangible and personalised customer campaign focused on growing trees as part of a proactive response to the climate-biodiversity crisis.
G Adventures undertook an international search for available solutions, before deciding to work with Reforest and also become an investor in the platform. The program developed was called Trees for Days.
G Adventures will plant one tree for every day a traveller is on tour. Additional trees will also be planted at other customer touch points, such as signing up to the G newsletter. As a more tangible and engaging alternative to traditional flight offsetting, every G customer will be able to grow additional trees to mitigate the impact of their flights. Customers can see their trees in a personal account, keep track of them and grow their forest over time.
When we reviewed the market for solutions, no other platform offered the key elements we wanted to make our program really special.
That’s why rather than just being a corporate partner with Reforest, we actually invested in the business. We’ll be encouraging other travel companies throughout our network to follow our lead and implement their own programs using the Reforest platform."
